Cape Town - Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan admitted that it was a 'special' day for him and the team following their 21-run victory over South Africa.

It was a momentous day for Al Hasan, who reached a personal milestone of 5000 runs and 250 wickets, becoming the quickest player to do so and the fifth man to achieve the feat.

Al Hasan, who is ranked as the world's No 1 all-rounder, scored 75 from 84 and took the wicket of Aiden Markram, to reach 250 scalps.

And the 32-year-old was pleased he could contribute to his side's victory.

"It was extremely satisfying from personal point. I could contribute for the team while also managed to touch some personal milestone. The partnership between me and Mushfiqur bhai was important to lay down the platform for our batsmen. The start was important and we could do that," Shakib said at The Oval on Sunday.

"Naturally it's a special day for me. I think it is special day for Bangladesh team as well. It was very important for us that we start in this manner in the beginning of the World Cup that is so challenging. In that sense it is very special.

"It was extremely satisfying, basically we had the belief. We need to perform in the middle and everyone was eager to do it. We are lucky that our plan worked. I think the faith helped us to execute our plans in the middle."

Shakib now believes it is imperative that the Bangladeshis don't get carried away after their stunning victory and keep their feet on the ground.

"It is just one match and still there is eight more matches and we have to face tough challenges ahead. Every team will play to their best after this result and so we need to prepare accordingly," he said.

"Other teams will be very cautious about us. This can be good as they will have some kind of a pressure. But at the same time earlier we could do our things without being in the spotlight but now that won't be the case as the focus will be on us. We need to do well despite all the focus," the ace all-rounder remarked.
