London - As fans streamed into Lord's on Sunday for the 2019 Cricket World Cup final between England and New Zealand, there were plenty left standing in the streets of St John's Wood trying to find a way in.

Tickets for the fixture have been an issue all week, with reports suggesting that Indian fans had purchased around 40% of the total number on offer in the belief that their team would be one of the two contesting the final.

As is always the case with big matches, the touts have been active and they were out in their numbers around the stadium on Sunday.

Sport24 spent some time speaking to fans who were looking for last-minute tickets, with some saying they were prepared to spend as much as £500 (around R10 000) for a chance to watch the match.

Touts positioned just outside the St John's Wood tube station were selling tickets for as much as £2000 (around R40 000) before the match had started.

Police around the stadium had their hands full, with one officer confirming to Sport24 that they were confiscating signs that fans were holding in an attempt to secure tickets.

By the time play started 11:45 (SA time) after a short delay due to the wet weather, there didn't seem to be an empty seat in the house.
