London - England captain Eoin Morgan is not getting carried away ahead of Sunday's World Cup final against New Zealand at Lord's.

The tournament hosts will enter the final as favourites, but Morgan knows that will count for little when the sides lock horns on the greatest stage of them all.

Whoever wins on Sunday will be a first-time World Cup winner and the sixth in the tournament's history.

While the Black Caps are contesting their second successive final, England are in the final for the first time since 1992.

Ever since the tournament got underway back on May 30, it has been clear that on any given day, any side can beat any other side.

England themselves had a hiccup mid-tournament with losses to Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Australia threatening their progression to the semi-finals at one stage.

"It means a huge amount to me and everybody in the changeroom," Morgan said of the opportunity to play in a World Cup final.

"It's been four years of hard work, patience and planning. The support we've had from all over the country has been unquestionable."

Morgan, though, is staying grounded.

"I haven't allowed myself to think about lifting the trophy," he said.

"Cricket is very fickle ... if you ever get ahead of it, it always seems to bite you in the backside."

"I'm feeling pretty relaxed ... we're going to enjoy the game, regardless, and try take in as much as we can. It's a World Cup final."

Morgan added that he had a fully fit squad of players to choose from.

Play on Sunday starts at 11:30 (SA time).
