Get behind the Proteas Friday!

Cape Town - Cricket South Africa (CSA) and LeadSA are calling on all South Africans to show their full and unwavering support for the Proteas in Australasia by wearing their national colours or Protea jerseys during the ICC Cricket World Cup which kicks off on Friday.

The Proteas play their first World Cup match against Zimbabwe on Sunday (03:00 SA time).

"We are all poised for a good showing by our Proteas and we want our fans to continue with their fantastic support of the #ProteaFire campaign," said CSA chief executive, Haroon Lorgat.

"Over the past few months we have seen amazing support from all South Africans and we want to continue our nation building initiatives by asking all fans to wear their Protea jerseys or South African colours and show their support on Fridays," added Lorgat.

"I also want to take this opportunity to thank Lead SA for their role in getting the whole country involved in supporting the Proteas."

Meanwhile Lead SA activist, Yusuf Abramjee called on South Africans to promote national pride in support of the initiative.

The new Protea ODI Cup replica jersey is on sale at all major sports apparel outlets.
