India 'favourite' to lift CWC

2011-02-03 09:31

New Delhi - Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan feels India is the favourite to win the upcoming Cricket World Cup.

Khan, who led Pakistan to a World Cup triumph in 1992, says "India stands the best chance" because of its depth in both batting and bowling.

Conditions are also expected to help India, which plays five of its six league fixtures at home in the 14-nation tournament which begins on Feb. 19.

India will co-host the tournament with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Maybe he is right. But semi's could look like this, India, Sri Lanka, Aussies and England

      Thomas - 2011-02-04 02:19

That could also put South Africans in the final! Kirsten,Trott and Peterson!! I think Prior also has SA connections, but I am not sure!

On present form I take the winner to come from India, England or Australia...Esp. being on the ODI format........The recent ODI series between England and Australia was really an eye opener, But..lets put S.A in with a chance..[ it's a pity about the Boucher 'oversight' ]...All this is purely my opinion....Aaaah well , may the best team win.

    Protea all the way!

  • Parko - 2011-02-03 10:46

Sri Lanka was technically a host nation in 96 and won the cup

  • mupet-killer - 2011-02-03 11:31

screw that, its the proteas turn now. people call it choking but we also had alot of bad luck. rain did its part in both 1992 and 2003. india are favorites coz they the hosts-thats all-its an open world cup. at the moment oz and sa have the momentum and that would be the dream final-whenever these 2 teams meet something special happens. sa are like the french rugby team or holland football team, best country to never win a world cup but that could change, even without albie.

No Worries Mate's, the Australians are back, watch this space.

I think it is set up perfectly for us this time. We had a hard fought series against India as preparation. Our group is much, much tougher than Australia's. We are going to battle through our group with some very tough games whereas the Aussies are going to cruise. Come the business end of the tournament and the Aussies are going to be caught on the hop by teams that have gone through a much sterner test. Destiny beckons.

I think Pakistan could be the surprise package. With their bowling strength, they could surprise a few if their batters set targets of 260+ consistently. They are a good team that doesn't play to their potential consistently and if they set decent totals, I think they can win this. That said, a Protea die-hard fan that I am - PROTEAS ALL THE WAY. Underdogs to shock the world
