Cook to lead SA Invitation XI

Cape Town - Stephen Cook will captain the South African Invitation XI to play against India in a two-day tour match at Willowmoore Park on December 14 and 15.

Players from the Titans and Dolphins could not be considered as it clashes with their Sunfoil Series fixture.

“As always, these matches against international touring sides offer the opportunities for players to show their worth at a higher level,” commented SA Invitation XI coach, Vincent Barnes.

“Several of them showed outstanding form in the opening round of Sunfoil Series fixtures. Stephen and Stiaan van Zyl both scored centuries while Temba Bavuma fell just short. Beuran Hendricks, Hardus Viljoen and Stephen Harmer were among the leading wicket-takers.”

South African Invitation XI:

Stephen Cook (Highveld Lions, captain), Temba Bavuma (Highveld Lions), Andrew Birch (Warriors), Simon Harmer (Warriors), Beuran Hendricks (Cape Cobras), Reeza Hendricks (Knights), Eddie Leie (Highveld Lions), Chris Morris (Highveld Lions), Rilee Rossouw (Knights), Yaseen Vallie (Cape Cobras), Stiaan van Zyl (Cape Cobras), Dane Vilas (Cape Cobras), Hardus Viljoen (Highveld Lions).

Management team:

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
