Roelof blitz floors Kolkata

Hyderabad - Roelof van der Merwe blasted Somerset to a five-wicket victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders in their CLT20 match in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Van der Merwe hit 73 off only 40 deliveries, coming in at number three with Somerset in early strife on 13/1.

The Knight Riders, however, did not lie down, and in the 14th and 15th overs took three wickets in seven balls to send a shudder though Somerset's dug-out.

Nick Compton and Arul Suppiah combined, but the latter fell to one audacious sweep too many, and it was left to the hero of the last qualifier, Steve Snell, and Compton (19 not out) to coax the ball around for the run-a-ball 19 they needed for victory.

Earlier, an unbeaten 90-run partnership between Jacques Kallis and Yusuf Pathan spurred Kolkata Knight Riders to 161 for three, after having opted to bat.

Kallis started off steady, then accelerated at the end to finish on 74 not out off 61 deliveries, which included four boundaries and four maximums.

Yusuf Pathan blasted an undefeated 21-ball 39 to help Kallis post their partnership in fewer than eight overs.
