CSA welcomes ZAC

Cape Town - In an all-action unveiling, Cricket South Africa (CSA) introduced its newest squad member to the press and public on Tuesday morning.

ZAC is the all-new official mascot for the Proteas and South African Cricket. His name is derived from the words South Africa (ZA) and Cricket (C), and his physical features stem from two of our country’s most recogniseable symbols, the African Lion and the King Protea.

ZAC will become a prominent figure on the TV screens, in stadia and stores across the country for cricket loving fans to interact and engage with.

CSA acting CEO, Jaques Faul, explains the concept behind ZAC:

“ZAC came about as a result of CSA wanting to provide our fans with a character that embodies the skills required to compete at the highest level. Strength, power, speed agility and skill are all characteristics that ZAC and the Proteas posess in abundance. Together they will become the ‘Pride of the Nation’.”

Cricket fans will be able to purchase ZAC merchandise in stores across the country, with the character extending through into an extensive merchandise range.

Supporters are be encouraged to get behind the Proteas in the lead up to the ICC T20 World Championships in Sri Lanka in September, 2012, and what better way to do this than by getting some ZAC gear for the whole family.
