Johannesburg - Cricket SA’s (CSA) board of directors gathered in Johannesburg on Saturday morning to discuss a ministerial report and its recommendations.
The first item on the agenda, however, was to elect a new acting president, after AK Khan resigned from the position at a management committee meeting on Wednesday.
Khan and CSA audit and risk committee chairman John Blair resigned following the scathing report released last Friday which found the board had failed to take appropriate action against chief executive Gerald Majola for alleged financial misconduct.
Members of the board been briefed in advance on the report, which contained the findings and recommendations of a ministerial committee of inquiry, headed by retired judge Chris Nicholson, which looked into CSA’s financial affairs.
Nicholson recommended that Majola be suspended for 180 days pending the conclusion of a disciplinary inquiry and that the board should be restructured and downsized to consist of a majority of independent, professionally skilled, non-executive directors.
