CSA Youth Manager shot

Johannesburg - Cricket South Africa Youth Cricket Manager, Niels Momberg, is recovering in hospital after being shot during an attempted hijacking in the driveway of his home in Parkmore on Monday night.

Momberg, son of former South African Ambassador to Greece, was shot in the chest and the bullet lodged in his arm.

"His doctors say he was very lucky that the bullet didn't hit any vital organs," his bother Altus said on Tuesday.

"He is doing well, and in fact watched the Varsity Cup match between the Maties and the Ikeys on television last night. I think his recovery was helped by the Maties' victory!"

The hijackers ran away after shooting Momberg, and nothing was taken.

CSA chief executive Gerald Majola has sent Momberg a message wishing him a speedy recovery.

"Members of the cricket family have called to express their dismay at this unfortunate incident," said Majola.

"We wish Niels a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to the office soon."
