Bizarre golden duck for Maxwell

Cape Town - Australian batsman Glenn Maxwell has apologised for his shot selection after going out for a rather bizarre golden duck.

Maxwell was playing for the Melbourne Stars against the Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash T20 League when he charged down the wicket at a Cameron Duffield delivery, only to bizarrely leave the ball - which went on to hit the stumps.

The flamboyant stroke-maker apologised to fans afterwards, tweeting: Maxwell's effort left commentators Adam Gilchrist and Damien Fleming bemused at what had just occurred.

The Stars went on to lose the match by one run, after failing to chase down the Heat's 164/8.
