Cape Town - Australia opener David Warner has been fined 15% of his match fee after pleading guilty to a charge of making inappropriate comments about Proteas player AB de Villiers ahead of the third and final Test which starts in Cape Town on Saturday.

That amounts to A$2 880 (R28 000).

Warner suggested that De Villiers was in some way tampering with the ball while wearing the wicketkeeper gloves.

Pee-nuts @ R192 000 for the 4 day match : R48k per day : The fine was too weak : so he earned R20k for the last day. The Pee-nuts will most probably be paid back to him out of a slush fund for specific reasons :

Do all players get the same amount of match fee?

      Richard Barnes - 2014-02-27 16:09

As far as I know, yes. Aussies get either a squad fee or a match fee (starting XI) which is the squad fee plus 20%. They also get bonuses on top of that. They are on different contract retainers, though. Pup and Watson have the highest contract values. The two sides can get different match fees. Aussies are generally the best paid, then Eng, then Ind. If you factor in endorsements and everything, Indians go to the top, then Aussies.

15% of his match fee, and that's A$2880. Which means his match fee is A$19200 which is R186 666 per match. I am definitely in the wrong profession!

Wow so this dude gets fined A$2880 or 15% of his match fee, which meants that he gets paid roughly A$19000 per test match, which equates to about R186k!! (pls excuse me if my figures are a bit off). I remember way back in 1992, Indian allrounder Manoj Prabhakar was fined R100 (yes you read correctly!) or 10% of his match fee for showing "dissent" after being given out in the PE test match (and there were a few controversial decisions in that game which went against the Indian side - a teenaged Sachin Tendulker walked off the field in tears when given out incorrectly). Which means Prabhakar's entire match fee was only R1000, which was peanuts even for that era. Anyway the point is, under the circumstances, look how harsh that fine was compared to Warners. Cricketers certainly get paid handsomely these days, no wonder they can afford to talk smack and still get away with it. Warner should've been fined more, much more for his stupid comments.
