Earlier The Proteas have lost the wicket of Jacques Kallis after his scored a half century on the first day of the second Test against Australia.

South Africa lost both of their opening batsmen before lunch on the opening day of the second Test against Australia at the Wanderers on Thursday.

After winning the toss and opting to bat, Proteas' captain Graeme Smith (11) was the first man out after he edged Mitchell Johnson to second slip.

Johnson got the ball to swing away from the left-hander and Smith edged it to Michael Clarke for a simple catch.

After playing some well struck shots, Jacques Rudolph (30) would have been disappointed with his soft dismissal, as the ball shaved his bat on its path into the gloves of Brad Haddin, off the bowling of Shane Watson.

Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis steered South Africa to lunch on 107/2.

Kallis hit a classic cover drive, off the first ball he faced, to draw level with Brian Lara as the fourth highest run scorer in Test cricket of all time.

Johnson took the new ball for Australia from the Golf Course End while 18-year-old Pat Cummins, Australia's second youngest Test debutant, opened the attack from the Corlett Drive End.

South Africa, who lead the two-match series 1-0, were an unchanged side from the first Test while Australia made two enforced changes.

Cummins came in for fast-bowler Ryan Harris, who is suffering from pain in his right hip, while Usman Khawaja will bat at three for Australia in place of Shaun Marsh, who had already returned home with a back injury.

Amla was unbeaten on 14 while Kallis, who had a decision overturned, went in to lunch on 43.

Earlier, umpire Billy Bowden had given him out lbw, but the decision was reviewed and television replays showed Kallis had got an inside edge, when he was on 32.
