Praise for skipper Faf

Cape Town - Batsman David Miller has lauded the leadership qualities of Proteas T20 captain Faf du Plessis.

Miller was speaking after South Africa's first T20 international against Australia was rained out in Port Elizabeth on Sunday.

"So far I've really enjoyed playing under him as a leader," Miller told Die Burger's website.

"He has a lot of leadership qualities that I enjoy. Especially when the game is on, I find him to be a very calm leader.

"For example, we were under immense pressure when we recently played against Sri Lanka. We lost the one-day series but eventually won the T20 series."

According to Miller, Du Plessis is "very specific" about what tactics to follow and bowlers to utilise at any given time.

"He is still quite new in the role as South African (T20) captain and will grow as time goes by, but for now I think he's doing a good job."

The second T20 against Australia is at Kingsmead in Durban, with the third and final match scheduled for SuperSport Park in Centurion next Friday. Both games will start at 18:00.

After that, Du Plessis and his team will head to Bangladesh for the ICC World T20, which starts on Sunday.

South Africa's first game is against Sri Lanka in Chittagong on March 22.

As a life long Proteas fan, I feel Francois Du Plessis should be skipper. AB wears his heart on his sleeve and has not been a leader from young (school) like Faf has. Faf seems more shrewd - he should skipper all 3 formats and AB vice captain in all 3.

I lean towards AB. Your best Player should be your Captain, the simple reason is a player like Faf is more than likely to go through a rough period with the bat like he did last season and we would have to end up keeping him in because his the captain. I cant remember AB ever going through a rough patch.

@Avon:AB was out of form against england and the 1st 2 tests against australia.he regained form in perth.but to be fair to him, that was the start of his wicketkeeping role when he was out of form.

Yep. Then maybe we will rock the world in all formats.

Mmmmh is Faf our next test skipper maybe...

  • Hari Prasad - 2014-03-10 09:53

He is a good leader. But his batting is bit of a worry

  • Kenny K - 2014-03-10 10:37

That's Millers opinion, I think he is just trying to lick ass with Faf so that he can get a foot into the test team, he is brownnosing. If the selectors do have a full bag of gonnnnnnnnads between them , they will make Dean Elgar the test captain
