Johnson taunts SA ‘tub’ fans

Centurion – Mitchell Johnson has resumed his love-hate relationship with Proteas fans during the first Test at SuperSport Park here.

The menacing, exaggerated moustache-bearing Australian fast bowler was always likely to respond to chirps – some of them perhaps grudgingly admiring – when he fielded near the boundary rope.

First salvoes were fired his way during day two on Thursday, when his express pace and aggression was generally too hot for the SA batsmen to handle.

Asked at the post-play press conference what had been said to him by beer-clutching spectators, cooling themselves off in the tub at Castle Corner, Johnson replied: “I can’t really repeat what they were saying.

“It was nothing different to any other time I’ve been here!”

But then he admitted he gave a bit back.

“I said to a couple of the guys in the pool that maybe they should go to the toilet because they’ve been in there for a while.”

Call it Aussie bog humour?
