Jet lends Bouch a helping hand

Cape Town - Former South African and Transvaal wicketkeeper Ray "Jet" Jennings has helped Mark Boucher sharpen up his keeping skills ahead of the series-deciding one-day international clash against Australia at Kingsmead in Durban on Friday.

The Volksblad newspaper reports that Jennings - currently Cricket South Africa's specialist wicketkeeping coach - trained with Boucher at Kingsmead early on Wednesday before the rest of the Proteas' squad made their way to the ground.

Boucher was not at his best in the previous clash at St George's Park in Port Elizabeth. The 34-year-old missed a couple of stumping chances from off spinner Johan Botha's bowling.

Jennings - also a former Proteas coach - says he's been called up to get Boucher in the "right frame of mind" and "ready".

Jennings expects some uneven bounce from the Kingsmead pitch, which could toughen Boucher's job. He says they have a long working relationship and it was Boucher's decision to call on his assistance.

"Allan Donald (SA's bowling coach) phoned me. It's actaully just to get his (Boucher's) focus back," said Jennings.

The Proteas and the Aussies are currently level at 1-all in the three match ODI series, which in essence makes Friday's game a final.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
