'Patience' urged for out-of-form England duo

Sydney - Former England coach Peter Moores feels that veteran's Stuart Broad and Alastair Cook should be extended patience after a lean run in Australia.

Moores feels that axing the pair immediately would be allowing emotion to rule in the wake of a disappointing display in the Ashes.

Cook has yet to notch a half century in six innings in Australia while Broad finished the Perth Test wicketless.

Moores has urged those in charge not to discard players who have contributed so much because of one poor series.

The Nottinghamshire coach said: “It’s the wrong time to talk about people’s careers in the raw emotion of a heavy defeat, especially when it comes to people who have served England brilliantly for a long time."

“They’re very good players. We’ve all good and bad times. You look at Moeen Ali.

“He’s not had the series he would want, but for the previous 18 months he was brilliant."

Moores feels the selection panel and skipper Joe Root should not be put under pressure to a the veterans heading into the remaining two Tests with a whitewash looming.

“You shouldn’t analyse things like that, so immediately. It doesn’t work that way.

“You take a measured view. Unless you’re on the inside you don’t know where players are at.”
