KP shows compassion towards Strauss

Cape Town - Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen says there is no more tension between him and the country’s director of cricket, Andrew Strauss, after the latter’s wife was diagnosed with cancer

Strauss has rushed home from England’s currently tour to Australia to be at his wife’s side.

According to The Guardian, Ruth Strauss is undergoing medical tests before Christmas and needs her husband - with whom she has two sons, Sam (12) and nine-year-old Luca - at her side.

“His family need Andrew’s full support at this time,” a spokesperson for the England and Wales Cricket Board said.

England are currently up against it in the Ashes series against Australia and their tour has also been blighted by off-field controversies.

Just last week, when batsman Ben Duckett was suspended following an incident in a Perth bar, Pietersen had hit out at his former team, calling them a "f****** embarrassment!".

Pietersen took to Twitter to express his dissatisfaction with the England set-up and also took a dig at Strauss, with whom he's had run-ins with in the past.

However, after hearing of Strauss’ wife’s illness, Pietersen was quick to express his support to the former England captain.

He again took to Twitter saying there is no more tension between him and Strauss:

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
