Khawaja, Beer to debut for Oz

Sydney - Pakistan-born Usman Khawaja and left-arm spinner Michael Beer will make their debuts for Australia in the fifth Ashes Test against England.

Michael Clarke, who is deputising for injured Ricky Ponting as Australia captain in Sydney, announced the starting XI at a news conference Sunday. Fast bowler Doug Bollinger was the squad member left out of the starting team for the final Test of the series.

Khawaja is expected to bat at No 3, where Ponting usually bats for Australia.

England lead the series 2-1, ensuring it will retain the Ashes, and a win or draw at the Sydney Cricket Ground will deliver its first series win in Australia for 24 years.

Australia team:

Michael Clarke (captain), Shane Watson, Phil Hughes, Usman Khawaja, Mike Hussey, Steven Smith, Brad Haddin, Mitchell Johnson, Peter Siddle, Ben Hilfenhaus, Michael Beer
