Johnson ruled out of 2nd ODI

Hobart - Australia paceman Mitchell Johnson has been ruled out of Friday's second one-day international against England due to a throat infection, Cricket Australia said on Thursday.

The left-arm bowler would be assessed by the medical staff to determine his availability for Sunday's third match in Sydney, physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said in a statement.

"Mitchell Johnson is suffering from a throat infection and did not make the trip to Hobart yesterday (Wednesday)," Kountouris said.

"He has improved in the last 24 hours and is expected to meet the team in Sydney on Saturday."

Australia lead the seven-match series 1-0 after recording a six-wicket victory in Melbourne on Sunday.

Meanwhile, batsman Mike Hussey had returned to (his home in) Western Australia after undergoing surgery to reattach his damaged hamstring tendon and would be closely monitored, Kountouris said.

"He will now undergo intensive rehabilitation over the coming weeks and how he progresses through this rehabilitation period will ultimately determine his return to cricket," he said.

"As this is an unusual injury in cricket, we will be closely monitoring his progress and making appropriate progressions.

"As yet, we have not determined a fixed time for his return to cricket training and playing. This will become clearer in the next two or three weeks."

Hussey was included in Australia's final 15-man squad for the Feb. 19-April 2 World Cup in the sub-continent and the side will be hoping he recovers in time as they chase a fourth successive crown at cricket's showpiece event.
