Cape Town - Eight South Africans were bought at the two-day Indian Premier League (IPL) auction this past weekend and will star in the upcoming season of the cash-rich T20 tournament.

In addition, star batsman AB de Villiers and all-rounder Chris Morris were retained by their respective franchises prior to the auction.
De Villiers was retained by Royal Challenges Bangalore for R20.3 million, while Morris remains at Delhi Daredevils for R12.5 million.
Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada fetched the highest price paid for a Proteas player when he was sold for R7.7 million to the Daredevils.
Recent Test sensation Lungi Ngidi will make his IPL debut this year after he was snapped up by the Chennai Super Kings for R925 000.
Notably unsold Proteas players included Hashim Amla, who starred for the Kings XI Punjab last year, Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel.
The 11th season of the IPL is set to run between April 4 and May 31, 2018.
