The Egyptian FA has handed Al Ahly head coach Pitso Mosimane a hefty fine for his comments criticising his side's congested fixture schedule.
Mosimane lamented the Egyptian Red Devils' fixture schedule in a post-match interview following his side's 1-1 draw in a derby against Zamalek, where he criticised the timing of the fixture.
The 56-year-old was upset that the derby was scheduled before Al Ahly's CAF Champions League quarter-final clash against his former side Mamelodi Sundowns.
"Sundowns are resting, and we are playing," Mosimane said.
"If it were my way because Ahly is the only team playing in the CAF Champions League representing Egypt, we would protect Ahly and not play a game of that magnitude against Zamalek.
"Especially when Sundowns are putting games ahead and getting rest.
"But it's the way it is in Egypt, but one day more or one day less won't mean we will lose the match, but yes, of course, the conditions are different, you can see, we dropped a little at the end. The schedule of Egypt is a problem."
The Egyptian FA has now responded to Mosimane's comments by handing him a fine of 20 000 Egyptian pounds (around R18 000) while citing his comments as "hate speech" as a reason for the sanction.
Mosimane was fined alongside other members of staff for incidents that occurred during the tense Cairo derby against Zamalek.
Al Ahly welcome Mamelodi Sundowns in a CAF Champions League first-leg quarter-final clash on Saturday at the Al-Salam Stadium Cairo.
Kick-off is at 21:00.
