Baroka confirm club's top earner banks R200k

Cape Town - Baroka FC chairperson Khurishi Mphahlele says the club's lowest paid players earn R50 000 a month, while Bakgaga's highest earner pockets a handsome R200 000.

The side from Ga-Mphahlele near Polokwane have enjoyed an unbelievable start to the season under coach Kgoloko Thobejane, and currently top the Absa Premiership with 15 points out a possible 21.

A recent victory over Kaizer Chiefs has led to some speculation that the side could potentially mount a title challenge in 2017/18.

Nonetheless, Mphahlele has revealed that success does not come cheap with the club spending around R5 million per month on running costs.

He told SowetanLIVE: "You need at least R5 million a month to run a PSL team without any stress, but that is for Baroka. I cannot speak for other teams because we do not have the same (number of) staff.

"What I can tell you is that the amount is enough for Baroka to keep going. The salaries of players is the most expensive feature in this R5 million. The highest earner here is getting R200 000 and the lowest is pocketing R50 000 every month."
