Jones impressed with Cheetahs facilities

Cape Town - England coach Eddie Jones and delegates of the RFU are impressed with the facilities at the Free State Stadium, Cheetahs CEO Harold Verster says.

Jones visited South Africa this week to familiarise himself with the venues at which his side will do battle against the Springboks in June this year.

The Springboks will host England in a three-Test series starting at Ellis Park in Johannesburg on June 9, followed by Tests at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein (June 16) and Newlands in Cape Town (June 23).

Jones visited Ellis Park on Monday and was shown around the stadium by Lions CEO Rudolf Straeuli.

He also visited Durban earlier in the week as it is believed that England want to use the coastal city as a training base before the second Test in Bloemfontein.

On Wednesday, he was accompanied by Cheetahs director of rugby Franco Smith and the union’s management who showed him around the Free State Stadium.

“They are very impressed by the stadium and the facilities,” Verster told Netwerk24. “They also like the fact that the hotel is close to the stadium, as well as some of the training facilities we can offer them - at schools like Grey College...”

Jones completed his trip when he visited Newlands in Cape Town on Thursday.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
