Musa Nyatama has revealed his mandate as interim head coach of Moroka Swallows while the Dube Birds battle to climb away from the relegation dogfight.

The Dube Birds escaped with a point after coming back from behind 2-0 deal to secure a 2-2 draw against undefeated log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns on Monday evening at Dobsonville Stadium.

The single point comes as a welcome sigh of relief for a side desperate for points and at risk of relegation. Swallows are 14th on the DStv Premiership log table with 26 points from 24 matches.

The Dube Birds recently parted ways with head coach Steve Komphela and several key players including Andile Jali and Ntsako Makhubela.

Assistant coach Nyatama has since taken over at the helm, and speaking to media after the match against Sundowns, the player-turned-coach revealed what mandate he has been given by the club’s hierarchy.

"I always talking to the chairman, as well as our General Manager," Nyatama said.

"They only want their status, the only thing they want is to see the team stay in the PSL next season. So that’s the only mandate."

Swallows have collected just one win from their last five outings but will find whatever comfort therein is in that they still enjoy a nine-point lead over 15th placed Richards Bay."

"We are in a block lock where we say we need 10 points per five games," Nyatama added.

"Look, I’m happy, I’m happy where we are, where we have managed to collect five points from three matches, we still have two now, TS Galaxy and Chippa So if we get the six points form there, we will be more than happy.

Nyatama’s resolve will be put to the test when they take on TS Galaxy on Sunday at Mbombela Stadium.
