Following a string of impressive performances, Orlando Pirates talisman Patrick Maswanganyi has received even more special praise, this time from a Bucs legend.

Maswanganyi put in a near-flawless performance during Pirates’ 7-1 thrashing of Lamontville Golden Arrows last weekend.

His efforts earned him the Man of the Match award – his 10th of the season and more than any other player has managed so far.

From one midfielder to another, retired Bucs midfielder Alfred "Shakes" Gwabeni believes Pirates signed the bargain of the season.

"He’s getting better with every game," Shakes tells KickOff.

"He makes the team play and is not selfish with the ball. In my opinion, he is the best player that was signed in the [transfer] window by, I think, any team. He’s got to keep growing and influencing matches a lot more.

"When his confidence grows throughout the season, it will be hard to stop him."

Maswanganyi arrived at the club at the start of the season somewhat under the radar from SuperSport United, where he only played 23 matches last season, producing four assists.

He also only played the full 90 minutes on five occasions from those 23 appearances.

At Pirates, the 26-year-old has already made 31 appearances this season, contributing six goals and eight assists in the same period.

More is still expected from the man they affectionately call "Tito" if his coach’s sentiments are anything to go by.

"I'm happy for the boy (Maswanganyi), because it is easy to make it and to play for Pirates. It is not easy to do it in the way he does. Hopefully, he can continue to improve and be more consistent,'' said Riveiro in March.
