Jomo Cosmos owner and head coach Jomo Sono expects the historic club to be back in the Premier Soccer League within two years.

Ezenkosi were relegated from the top flight in 2016, and again from the then GladAfrica Championship in 2022.

Currently, they are plying their trade in the ABC Motsepe League, which is the third tier of South African football.

After failing to gain promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, they will have to try again next season.

Bra J, as the legendary former Orlando Pirates playmaker is affectionately known, says the thought of taking shortcuts to professional football by buying a Motsepe Foundation Championship or Premier Soccer League status has never crossed his mind.

"To be honest, I'm happy with these young boys because our plan was three years, and we've done well in the first two years," Sono tells KickOff.

"We will give it another go again next season, but I think these boys are growing, they've been showing growth. They are getting used to this league, which is not an easy league to play in. There are just too many complications in this league.

"But we will soldier on. You fall seven times, you rise eight times. We don't have money to spend on buying anything related to football. There are no good returns in football, you spend more than you gain, so buying a professional football status does not make any sense.

"Even if we had money we were never going to spend it on buying a Premier Soccer League or Motsepe Foundation Championship status.

"I think it depends on how deep your pockets are, some of us just don't afford it. It also depends on the taste of an individual.

"Especially for the NFD status, the National First Division is a very expensive business.

"So, we are happy where we are because we are identifying a lot of good players. The ABC Motsepe League allows us to see some of the country's raw talent.

"It will take us one more year to get back to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, and two years to get back to the PSL, and we are going to do it with our players from development."
