Garcia eyes Open after Masters triumph

Cape Town - Sergio Garcia is already targeting this summer’s Open title after breaking his majors duck at the Masters.

Garcia finally triumphed in one of golf’s showpiece events last weekend after securing the green jacket at Augusta in the 71st major competition of the Spaniard’s career.

After beating Justin Rose in the play-off at the Masters, the 37-year-old wants to add to his majors tally, with July’s Open in his sights after two second placed finishes previously in the event.

“It’s better late than never,” Garcia told Radio Marca.

“I have to continue on the same path. I hope this is not the last.

“The Masters is like the Champions League, but the British Open is like the Champions’ Champions League.”

Before the Open gets underway at Royal Birkdale, the second major of the season takes place in June, with the US Open held at Erin Hills and, with the way Garcia is playing at the moment, anyone against the Spaniard in either event would be a brave soul indeed.
