The decision of the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) to appeal the order of the Electoral Court has placed it on a collision course with the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), threatening to draw it into the political space.
The party has accused the electoral body of waging a personal legal battle with its leader, former president Jacob Zuma. Party leaders, including Zuma himself, have stopped just short of calling the IEC an enemy. In public appearances this week, mostly outside courts, Zuma railed against the IEC’s alleged bias against him and his party, and spurred the passions of his supporters against the electoral body.
