Wozniacki tops WTA rankings

Berlin - Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark retained first place in the women's tennis rankings issued on Monday by the WTA.

Wozniacki has 9,970 points to dominate from Belgian Kim Clijsters (8,115) and Vera Zvonareva of Russia (7,615).

All top players apart from the injured Clijsters and Serena Williams are at the Madrid Masters which started on Saturday. It is the biggest tuneup event for the French Open Grand Slam which begins later in May.

WTA top 10 as of May 2 (previous rankings in parenthesis):

1. (1) Caroline Wozniacki, Denmark, 9,970 points

2. (2) Kim Clijsters, Belgium, 8,115

3. (3) Vera Zvonareva, Russia, 7,615

4. (4) Francesca Schiavone, Italy, 4,892

5. (5) Victoria Azarenka, Belarus, 4,630

6. (7) Li Na, China, 4,240

7. (8) Jelena Jankovic, Serbia, 4,235

8. (6) Samantha Stosur, Australia, 4,136

9. (9) Maria Sharapova, Russia, 3,726 10. (10) Serena Williams, United States, 3,035
