London - Jack Sock wrote the name of Bethanie Mattek-Sands on his tennis shoes on Friday in tribute to his gold medal-winning Olympic mixed doubles partner who suffered a sickening injury at Wimbledon.
Mattek-Sands was undergoing scans in a private hospital in the southwest London suburb after a horrifying injury to her right knee that left her flat out on court screaming in pain on Thursday.
"Wearing these on court for you today," Sock tweeted, with a picture of his shoes.
Sock and Mattek-Sands won the mixed doubles gold medal for the United States at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games.
Sock was on court Friday for a mixed doubles match with US partner Madison Keys. They made in through to the second round in straight sets.
Novak Djokovic also sent his best wishes to Mattek-Sands.
"I feel for u and wish u fast recovery," the world number four wrote on Twitter.
"So sorry that you are going through so much pain. Glad to see many people sending u love."
