Serena dethrones King

London - Serena Williams said she was thrilled to have overtaken compatriot Billie Jean King after winning her 13th Grand Slam singles title at Wimbledon on Saturday.

World number one Williams sealed her fourth Wimbledon singles crown with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Russia's Vera Zvonareva on Centre Court.

Williams looked up to see King, who won 12 Grand Slam titles during her career, among a host of former Wimbledon women's champions in the Royal Box.

They included Maria Bueno, Evonne Goolagong-Cawley, Ann Haydon-Jones, King, Angela Mortimer, Martina Navratilova, Jana Novotna and Virginia Wade.

"This one was very special. Hey Billie, I got you! This is number 13 for me now and it's just amazing to be able to be among such great people," Williams said.
