Gstaad - Second-seeded Stanislas Wawrinka advanced to the quarter-finals of his home Swiss Open tournament on Thursday, beating Peter Luczak of Australia 6-3, 7-5.
Wawrinka used his first serves, including nine aces, to control play against the 248th-ranked Luczak.
The Swiss No 2 plays Marcel Granollers in the quarter-finals, after the eight-seeded Spaniard completed a rain-affected match that started on Wednesday.
Granollers quickly won two games to beat Igor Andreev of Russia 6-1, 6-3.
Two more of Spain's seeded players had straight sets wins in rain-interrupted matches.
Fourth-seeded Fernando Verdasco beat Frederico Gil of Portugal, 6-3, 6-2, and fifth-seeded Feliciano Lopez beat compatriot Daniel Gimeno-Traver 6-3, 6-4.
