Wozniacki claims the spoils in Hong Kong

Cape Town - Fifth seed Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark defeated Kristina Mladenovic in three sets to win the Hong Kong Open on Sunday.

Wozniacki, who won her first tournament of the year in Tokyo last month, beat Frenchwoman Mladenovic 6-1, 6-7(4), 6-2 in a match that lasted two hours and 42 minutes.

The Dane survived a break point in the opening game of the match to dominate, breaking Mladenovic twice to lead 5-0 and eventually won the opening set 6-1.

Mladenovic, who took a medical time-out before the start of the second set, did bounce back by claiming her opponents serve in the fourth game to lead 3-1, but immediately dropped serve. 

A further break of serve each meant the set needed to be won via a tie-break, which the Frenchwoman won 7-4 to even things up with a set each.

In the decider, Mladenovic's injury problems returned and she struggled with her serve, which
