Witthoeft downs Puig for maiden title

Luxembourg - Germany's Carina Witthoeft defeated Olympic champion Monica Puig of Puerto Rico 6-3, 7-5 on Saturday to claim her first career title at the Luxembourg WTA Tour tournament.

The 22-year-old, world No 73, was playing in her first final of the season having previously notched up her best performance of 2017 by reaching the semi-finals in Budapest in February.
