Cape Town - Former world No 1 Maria Sharapova will feature in her first Tianjin Open at the Tianjin Tuanbo International Tennis Centre in October.
The Russian superstar is no stranger to playing in China, having won the China Open in Beijing in 2014 and finishing as runner-up in 2012.
"It will be a new experience for me to visit another beautiful city in China, and in a city that has a growing tennis culture," the 30-year-old told wtatennis.com.
"I know that the tournament is just three years old but I have heard that they have developed a strong reputation delivering a high quality tournament and player experience. I am delighted to be playing there and look forward to seeing everyone at the Tianjin Open."
Sharapova has played in three events via wild card entries since her return to tennis after a 15-month doping ban in April, with a semi-final appearance at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart being her best result so far.
