Cape Town - Third seed Petra Kvitova defeated Elina Svitolina in straight sets to win the WTA Elite Trophy event in Zhuhai, China on Sunday.
Czech, Kvitova, needed 71 minutes to cruise past the Ukrainian fourth seed 6-4, 6-2 to pocket her share of the $2,210,000 total prize money on offer for the event.
In the opening set, Svitolina led 4-1 at one stage having broken Kvitova's serve in the fourth game, but all that changed when she dropped her own serve in the seventh and ninth games only for Kvitova to serve out the set in convincing fashion, to love, winning it 6-4.
Kvitova won 20 out of the last 24 points in the set to turn the match around to take complete control of the match.
In the next set, the 26-year-old Kvitova went up a level, breaking her opponent's serve in the first, fifth and seventh games, despite dropping her own serve in the sixth game, to seal the victory with a service winner and run out a comfortable 6-2 victor and claim her 19th WTA trophy.
