Wozniacki ousted in Stuttgart

Stuttgart - Carla Suarez-Navarro of Spain beat world No 10 Caroline Wozniacki 7-6 (8/6), 6-1 in the first round on Wednesday as the first seed fell by the wayside at the Porsche Grand Prix.

The seventh-seeded former world No 1 Wozniacki squandered an early 3-0 lead en route to defeat in one hour 47 minutes against the 23rd-ranked Suarez-Navarro.

The winner impressed with her one-handed backhand and raced through the second set after winning the tight first. Suarez-Navarro wrapped up her sixth career win over a top 10 player on her first match point when Wozniacki's baseline shot was ruled out.

"I played well and am very happy. Caroline is a very good player and fights. It was a difficult first set, very close," Suarez-Navarro said.

Suarez-Navarro has reached four finals, including Acapulco 2013, but is yet to lift a trophy.

Set to play later are fifth-seeded former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova against Annika Beck, 2011 champion Julia Goerges against Kirsten Flipkens and 2008 champion Jelena Jankovic against the sixth-seeded 2010 runner-up Samantha Stosur.
