Williams is favourite: Halep

Singapore - Simona Halep on Saturday insisted she wasn't favourite against Serena Williams in the WTA Finals title match despite her one-sided 6-0, 6-2 victory over the world number one this week.

The Romanian has been the revelation of the season finale, handing Williams her biggest defeat since 1998 in the group stages and thrashing Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2, 6-2 in Saturday's semi-finals.

But when asked if she had the edge over Williams in Sunday's final, Halep said: "Not really, because she has experience. She knows how I play, how I played a few days ago.

"She's older than me and she knows how to manage this final tomorrow. For me it's first time. But still, I believe that I have a chance."

In Singapore, Halep is playing her first WTA Finals while Williams is seeking her fourth title in a row at the year-ending tournament.

Halep could have eliminated the defending champion if she had gone down in straight sets in her final group match against Ana Ivanovic, but she said the thought never crossed her mind.

"I just wanted to play my game yesterday against Ivanovic. I didn't think that I can eliminate Serena. Every time when I go on court I just want to do everything I can to win the match," she said.

"I play with pleasure. I love tennis. That's why. I don't care about results, but when the results are coming so I'm really happy.

"Tomorrow, yeah, will be maybe more tough, the match, because she will be very focused. But, you know, it's a good experience for me, too."
