Bastad - Unseeded South African Chani Scheepers has failed to capture her second WTA Tour title, losing 6-3 7-6(3) to German Mona Barthel in the final of the Swedish Open in Bastad, in Sweden, on Sunday.
After losing the opening set, Scheepers broke serve in the second game of the next set and raced to a 5-3 lead.
Barthel, however, broke back and eventually won the title in tiebreak.
"Mona played a great match today. I didn't start out too well but worked my way into the match," said Scheepers after the final.
"I think I was a little unlucky to not have taken it to three sets and then who knows, but I'm still very happy with my results and how I played this week," said Scheepers.
Scheepers now moves onto the hard courts from the clay and will play the WTA events in Montreal and Cincinnati prior to the last Grand Slam of the year, the US Open in New Yor in late August.
