Scheepers climbs in rankings

Johannesburg - South Africa's top-ranked women's player, Chanelle Scheepers, climbed two positions to 68th in the latest women's world tennis rankings released on Monday.

Scheepers, who reached a career high 37th in October 2011, advanced to the second round of the Baku Cup in July, after defeating Czech Andrea Hlavackova 3-6 6-3 6-4, but her dreams of advancing beyond the second round were shattered when she was eliminated by Israel's Shahar Peer.

SA's top men's player, Kevin Anderson, retained his career-high position of 21st in the ATP ratings.

Anderson put up a gutsy performance at the Washington Open, but was eliminated by Juan Martin del Potro in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
