Peer through to Baku semis

Baku - Shahar Peer of Israel has advanced to the semi-finals of the Baku Cup by beating Tadeja Majeric of Slovenia 6-0, 6-4 on Friday.

The 149th-ranked Peer, who is looking for her sixth career title, will next face Polish qualifier Magda Linette.

Linette advanced to her first semi-final match on the WTA Tour when wild-card entry Ons Jabeur of Tunisia, leading 6-3, 4-1, retired with an ankle injury.

Seventh-seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine reached her second semi-final in as many weeks by beating second-seeded Donna Vekic of Croatia 6-2, 6-3.

She will next play fourth-seeded Alexandra Cadantu of Romania, who eliminated Galina Voskoboeva of Kazakhstan 6-3, 6-7 (7/3), 6-3.
