Azarenka still No 1

Berlin - Victoria Azarenka begins the defence of her Australian Open title top of the women's rankings released Monday by the WTA.

The Belarussian slips slightly to 10 325 points ahead of Russia's Maria Sharapova, who stays on 10 045, and Serena Williams of the United States, who remains on 9 750 in an unchanged top 10.

WTA rankings as of January 14 (previous ranking in parenthesis):

1. (1) Victoria Azarenka, Belarus, 10 325 points

2. (2) Maria Sharapova, Russia, 10 045

3. (3) Serena Williams, United States, 9 750

4. (4) Agnieszka Radwanska, Poland, 7 750

5. (5) Angelique Kerber, Germany, 5 575

6. (6) Li Na, China, 5 135

7. (7) Sara Errani, Italy, 5 085

8. (8) Petra Kvitova, Czech Republic, 5 085

9. (9) Samantha Stosur, Australia, 4 135 10. (10) Caroline Wozniacki, Denmark, 3 765
