Wawrinka books third-round berth

New York - Third-seeded Swiss Stan Wawrinka eased into the third round of the US Open on Thursday with a 6-2, 7-6 (7/4), 7-5 victory over Italian qualifier Alessandro Giannessi.

Wawrinka, a two-time semi-finalist, fell behind in the second set and said he was pleased to get through in three sets against the left-hander who played tougher than his 243 world ranking might suggest.
