Cape Town - South Africa’s top tennis player, Kevin Anderson, will face Canada’s Vasek Pospisil in the second round of the US Open on Wednesday.
Anderson, the world No 35, beat Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 in his first round match on Monday.
Pospisil eased past Slovakia’s Jozef Kovalik 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 in his first round encounter, but Anderson will fancy his chances against the Canadian.
Anderson and Pospisil, who is ranked No 123 in the world, have duelled once before on the ATP World Tour - in 2014 at the Masters 1000 clay event in Rome, when Anderson won 7-5, 7-6 (7/4).
While Anderson will be the favourite for his second round match, he faces a potential tough third round encounter against ninth-seeded Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who is expected to beat Australia’s James Duckworth.
Anderson's match against Pospisil is scheduled for the newly-built Grandstand court and will start at 17:00 (SA time) on Wednesday.
