Anderson crashes out of Open

New York - South Africa's Kevin Anderson crashed out of the US Open in the second round on Friday, losing 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 to Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus.

According to the supersport.com website, Anderson, seeded 17th at Flushing Meadows, struggled through his first-round match against Daniel Brands on Wednesday, winning in four sets, but he surrendered meekly to Baghdatis in a match that lasted under an hour and a half.

In the two players' only previous meeting, two years ago in Vienna, Anderson emerged triumphant in straight sets, but on Friday, he was no match for the 28-year-old Cypriot, who is currently 33 spots below the South African in the ATP rankings.

"I had some health issues, I wasn't really 100%," Anderson said fter the match.

"In my first match, I had to improvise, adjust my game a little bit, but after that first match I just couldn't recover, especially with the way Marcos played."

Baghdatis will now face Swiss ninth seed Stanislas Wawrinka.
