Tomic wins opener in Munich

Munich - Fifth-seeded Bernard Tomic of Australia defeated Olivier Rochus of Belgium 6-4, 6-3 in the only main-draw match on Monday in the first round of the BMW Open.

Fifth-ranked Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France headlines the field that also includes defending champion Nikolay Davydenko of Russia.

Tsonga is playing in Munich for the first time as he seeks to win his first title on clay.

The Munich tournament is one of the warm-up events for the French Open.
