Soweto Open washed out

Soweto - The sixth day of the Soweto Open was washed out on Saturday with no play possible at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Centre in Jabavu.

The tournament was extended by one day and officials would make a decision on possible further play at 07:30 on Sunday morning.

Officials had called off any further play in the men's and women's doubles, but were considering allowing the men to continue on Sunday after two players requested that the decision be reviewed.

The men's doubles competition had not progressed beyond the quarter-finals, after rain disrupted play for three successive days, while the women had not yet completed their semifinals.

The men's singles semi-finals and final, as well as the women's final, would be completed on Sunday, provided play was possible.
