Sharapova books semis spot

New York - Russian third seed Maria Sharapova advanced to the semi-finals of the US Open on Wednesday with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over French 11th seed Marion Bartoli in a match halted Tuesday by rain.

Sharapova will next face World No. 1 and top seed Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, the reigning Australian Open champion, for a berth in Saturday's women's final. Azarenka is 5-4 all-time against Sharapova.
