Scheepers loses at Wimbledon

Johannesburg - South African women's tennis No 1 Chanelle Scheepers, was dumped out of the first round of Wimbledon 7-6, (7/5) 7-6, (7/5) by Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan on Tuesday.

Despite a close contest against the Kazakh, Scheepers was unable to win the crucial points and lost both sets in tie-breaks.

Scheepers matched Schevdova in every department, most notably with first-service points won, with the pair both winning 63 percent of their points.

Scheepers even shaded her opponent in total points won, winning 96 to Shvedova's 95.

The 28-year-old Scheepers has never made it past the first round of the grass-court event, after three appearances at Wimbledon.
